Becker’s Hospital Review Honors SUNY Downstate and UHD’s Best

Tashma WatsonCongratulations to Tashma Watson, Ph.D., R.N., CSSM, who was named among the Becker’s Hospital Review 2023 List of the 149 Black Healthcare Leaders to Know.

Dr. Watson is responsible for the oversight of all daily operations for 12 operating rooms and five ambulatory rooms. She manages quality, safety, and regulatory responsibilities for procedural locations, provides pre-, peri- and postsurgical care oversight, and has administrative responsibility for the system’s transplant program. As a subject matter expert and published author, Dr. Watson acts as an educator and mentor, providing leadership and knowledge to others.

The list focuses on diversity in healthcare, especially at the executive level, and provides organizations with insight into the lived experiences of clients and employees to provide more informed, personalized care and improved care outcomes. The individuals highlighted on this list foster positive patient experiences, paving the way for the next generation of leaders and promoting health equity.

Lester PhotoCongratulations to Wren Lester, Ph.D., CPXP, CPHQ, UHD chief experience officer, who was similarly recognized in Becker’s Hospital Review 2023 List of 50+ Health System Chief Experience Officers to Know. Dr. Lester is responsible for facilitating organizational culture transformation, focusing on patient-centered care and employee engagement. She is also responsible for leadership development, middle manager coaching, and staff training to improve the patient experience.

Chief experience officers balance the best interests of caregivers, patients, and leadership to improve and continue to deliver excellent care and patient experience at their organizations. They ensure an excellent care culture in their staff that translates into better patient outcomes.
