The Office of Research Solicits Applications for 2023 Research Seed Grant Program

By Office of The President | Feb 21, 2023

The Office of Research, under the leadership of David Christini, Ph.D., senior vice president for Research is soliciting applications for the 2023 Research Seed Grant Program from Downstate faculty along three tracks.

Track I covers projects focused on health equity or health disparities (described by NIH NIMHD) from individuals or teams of Downstate faculty investigators. Track II focuses on digital health, defined broadly as information and communications technologies in medicine and other health professions to manage illness and health risks and promote wellness (as defined in Digital Health) from individuals or teams of faculty investigators. Track III covers projects in any area from teams of two or more Downstate faculty investigators who have not received federal (or other substantial) funding together in the last four years. The Office of Research anticipates making ten awards up to $400K across all tracks.

Funding can be requested for one year, including laboratory, clinical, computational (including secondary data analyses), or epidemiological (quantitative and qualitative) research for all tracks, provided it is appropriate for a federal funding mechanism.

It is expected that IACUC/IRB/IBC protocols for the studies proposed will be submitted either at the time of application or immediately after that. Applications will not be reviewed without protocol submission.

One of the awards will be named the “The Robert F. Furchgott Society Seed Grant” in recognition of a generous financial contribution to the seed grant program from the Furchgott Society. Please note that applications should not request to be explicitly considered for The Robert F. Furchgott Society Seed Grant slot; the committee will nominate for that assignment out of the grants it recommends for funding.

The deadline for applications is April 5, 2023. Details about eligibility, the application process, forms, funding terms, and selection criteria can be found here.
