Happy Occupational Therapy Month
By Office of Communications & Marketing | Apr 9, 2026
This April, we proudly celebrate Occupational Therapy Month and recognize the extraordinary Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs) across the Downstate community.
Occupational therapy is more than a profession—it is a commitment to helping people live fuller, more independent lives. Whether supporting someone in returning to work, relearning daily routines, or reconnecting with meaningful activities, OTs take a holistic, hands-on approach that addresses the whole person—mind, body, and environment.
In clinical settings, occupational therapy plays a critical role in recovery and long-term wellness. OTs help patients adapt after illness or injury, develop new strategies, and re-engage with everyday life. Their impact is especially profound in pediatric care, where they support children in building motor skills, communication, and social-emotional confidence—laying the foundation for lifelong success.
Our Occupational Therapy Program reflects a deep commitment to preparing skilled, compassionate professionals who meet patients where they are and help them regain independence and quality of life. Our faculty lead this work with intention, combining rigorous training with a focus on innovation, equity, and community impact to advance care that strengthens both individuals and the communities they serve.
To our clinicians, faculty, students, and alumni—thank you for the vital role you play in empowering individuals, building resilience, and demonstrating the true meaning of patient-centered care. Your work embodies our shared mission and commitment to #KeepCareClose.
