Frequently Asked Questions

Applications are available online from July – November for students starting our program in June of the following year. For example: you would apply July – November 2010 for program start date June 2011. Click here for an application: http://sls.downstate.edu/admissions/sohp/index.html

After the application deadline, applicants are notified by the Admissions Department on the status of their application. When your application is complete, it is forwarded to the OT Program for further review. Final decision letters on your application - Accepted, Alternate, Rejected - are then mailed from the Admissions Department. Decision letters are mailed as decisions are made. Applicants typically receive their decision letters between February and April. We will not relay any information on your status over the phone.

We accept 30 students each year.

No, our program begins at the beginning of June. There is no fall or spring start option.
Our full-time program is 2½ years long.
All courses during the OT Masters Program are given during the day Monday – Friday, from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. We do not have a weekend or evening program.
Accepted students to our program are required to attend the first summer semester full-time. After that, students can request to attend the program on a part-time basis with permission and counseling from their faculty advisor.
Prerequisite courses must be completed by the first day of classes in June. In addition, you must have obtained your bachelors degree by the program start in June. No. Undergraduate courses cannot be transferred for graduate level credit. They can be used to satisfy prerequisites if they meet the content and credit requirements.
No GRE is required. If you have taken the GRE, consider sending the score report to support your application.
No, the prerequisite courses are not offered here. We do not offer any undergraduate, liberal arts courses. All applicants take their prerequisites at other accredited colleges and universities.
At any accredited college or university. Be sure that the course has the amount of credits required and, where applicable, labs are included.

In order to accept AP or credit by exam credits such as CLEP or REGENTS you must submit the official score report from the organization administering the courses. We will accept up to 12 credits of credit by exam for prerequisites if the grades received are acceptable. Please see further information on credit by exam by going to the Application Instructions (PDF) on the admissions office website.
