University Hospital of Brooklyn

University Hospital of Brooklyn, a 320-bed hospital, is a major tertiary-care center for the Borough of Brooklyn. The principal teaching center of State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center, UHB is the borough's only hospital located at an academic medical center. SUNY aims to provide the highest quality of comprehensive, compassionate and accessible healthcare to the 2.6 million residents of Brooklyn, regardless of their ability to pay. UHB provides care to 18,000 inpatients each year, as well as completing 253,000 outpatient visits, and more than 60,000 emergency room visits. The Adult Neurology service includes 10 inpatient beds, 4 step-down beds for patients needing more concentrated nursing, and 6 epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) beds. In addition, patients may be seen by a consulting neurologist on any medical or surgical service at the request of the attending physician. The University Hospital of Brooklyn is the home of the Children's Hospital at Downstate. Approximately 80 beds are utilized by Pediatrics, including a 6 bed pediatric intensive care unit (ICU) and a 30 bassinet level III neonatal/regional perinatal center (NICU). The Pediatric Neurology service includes neurology and neurosurgery patients admitted to the pediatric floor and EMU. Additionally, consults are seen on the pediatric floor, PICU and NICU.

King's County Hospital Center

One of the largest public hospitals in the country, KCHC is a Level 1 Trauma center and has 627 beds. General Neurology and Stroke are the most consulted services in the hospital, with on average 1,700 consults requested from the Emergency Room, Inpatient floors, and Psychiatric units. Stroke received 1,400 consults in 2023. The hospital also houses a full service Neurology inpatient ward for the management of acute neurological pathology. The cases are diverse including pathology that is rarely seen across the world. The hospital has undergone recent renovations and provides the highest level of care to Brooklyn's most underserved.

Maimonides Medical Center

Maimonides Medical Center (MMC) is a 711 bed community hospital in Brooklyn located in Borough Park that serves a diverse and underserved community. Forty five percent of Maimonides’ core service-area residents are foreign-born who speak 86 different primary languages or dialects. The Jaffe Stroke Center at MMC is a comprehensive stroke center, with 1029 stroke consults in 2016. The general neurology service takes care of a large breadth of neurologic disorders, with 1326 general neurology consultations in 2016.
