Acceptances

Once your application is complete for an initial review, the Admissions Committee will review your credentials. You will be notified in writing of your status. Acceptance notifications (except for early decision) will be sent starting early February of your planned matriculattion year. The alternate list will be established in early April. Acceptances from the alternate list will occur between April and throughout the summer.

Certiphi Screening Criminal Background Check

State University of New York (SUNY) policy prohibits SUNY Downstate from inquiring into an applicant’s prior criminal history and does not use the information obtained from the Certiphi Background Check conducted through the AMCAS application process in making the admission decision. After acceptance, SUNY Downstate shall inquire if the student previously has been convicted of a felony and will receive the Certiphi Criminal Background Check. The information shall be reviewed by a standing campus committee consistent with the legal standards articulated in New York State Corrections Law, and other applicable law.

Students who have previously been convicted of a felony or other crimes are advised that their prior criminal history may impede their ability to complete the requirements of certain academic programs and/or to meet licensure requirements for certain professions. Students who have concerns about such matters are advised to contact the Admissions Office at medadmissions@downstate.edu.

Accepted Applicant Admissions Deposit

In order to permit applicants the opportunity to consider all of their educational options, we do not require an admissions deposit until April 15. If you are accepted for admission, you will be required to reserve your place in the entering class by submitting a $100 deposit from April 15 thru April 30. Deposits are applied toward a student's first semester's tuition. Deposits are refundable until April 30, 2025 for those applicants who are withdrawing.

In April, you will receive a reminder to pay your $100 deposit. You may pay by credit card (Mastercard or Visa) via your Admissions Portal on your SUNY Downstate prematric checklist prior to April 30, 2025.

Additional Conditions of Acceptance due prior to July 1st of the planned year of matriculation:

  • All accepted students are required to complete and upload proof of completion of the American Heart Association's Healthcare Provider course via the document upload section of the Admissions Portal. This is the only course that is accepted. See the American Heart Association's website for a list of courses in your geographic location. You will not be permitted to register if you have not completed this requirement.
  • Final official transcripts from all schools attended. AMCAS does not forward transcripts to medical schools.
  • Complete and submite all health forms and documents directly to the Student Health
  • Completion of all required items listed in the prematric checklist found in the Admissions Portal prematric
