Accreditation at Downstate
Institutional Accreditation
The United States Department of Education (USDE) requires that institutions of higher learning be accredited by an institutional accreditor for their students to be eligible for Title IV financial aid. Accreditation is also required for students to transfer academic credits to other accredited institutions. Every eight years, Downstate participates in a comprehensive, evidence-based self-study evaluation as part of our re-affirmation of accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). We value this as an opportunity to reflect on our institutional successes, identify strategies for continued improvement, and reaffirm our commitment to Middle States’ rigorous accreditation standards.
Accreditation by School/College
Downstate also maintains accreditation with eight specialized accreditors for many of its academic programs.
