To our Downstate Community:

I understand that the news of the changes at Downstate has brought about apprehension and uncertainty among students, faculty, staff, our patients, and the community.

While changes loom, it is essential to remember that SUNY Downstate is more than just a physical location; we are a community of passionate individuals who come together to make a difference in the lives of many. The impact of our collective efforts extends far beyond our walls. It is essential to remain focused on the quality of care, education, and service we are known for, especially during this time of uncertainty.

While the road ahead may appear challenging, we firmly believe in the strength and resilience of our SUNY Downstate community. I want to express my appreciation to the staff who consistently prepare for each day, the patients who come through our doors, the students who choose SUNY Downstate for their medical education and others for various healthcare programs, and our researchers who continue to find ways to make the lives of individuals better through their work. Your work, compassion, and expertise significantly impact the lives of our patients, students, and the entire community.

While the Chancellor and his team work to fulfill their commitment to exploring all possible avenues to address Downstate’s challenges, I encourage you to support each other and stay informed and engaged in the process as we navigate this uncertain path. My leadership team and I will update you with any developments and decisions as they unfold.
