Since 2021, ACOG has observed Maternal Health Awareness Day on January 23, joined by partners nationwide. Access to maternal healthcare is increasingly challenging due to financial, staffing, and policy issues, leading to maternity deserts and higher risks, particularly for Black individuals in Brooklyn. On #MaternalHealthAwarenessDay, raising awareness about the access crisis is crucial, and together, we can work towards solutions to restore and protect maternal healthcare access. Camille A. Clare, M.D., MPH, CPE, FACOG, Tenured Professor and Chair for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Downstate, discusses these issues.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

We honored our University Police Department (UPD) on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. UPD steadfastly maintains a safe and secure campus environment. Their efforts offer a resilient and supportive community that helps us educate, research, and heal. The UPD monitors Downstate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ensure a quick response for all emergencies. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all that you do at Downstate for our students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors. Our appreciation for you is immeasurable.
