Independent Living Donor Advocate

The Independent Living Donor Advocate (ILDA) is a healthcare professional experienced in transplantation. The ILDA functions independently from the transplant candidate (intended recipient) team. The primary responsibility of the ILDA is to promote and protect the rights of living donors. He/she works with the potential donor prior to the initiation of the evaluation and continues to and through the discharge phase, ensuring donors have received the necessary education needed to make an informed decision about donation and determine whether their decision to donate is free from coercion or external pressure.
