As the sun sets this evening, Jewish communities at Downstate, across Brooklyn, and around the world will come together to welcome Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year and the beginning of the High Holy Days.

Rosh Hashanah is a meaningful time of reflection, renewal, and hope. It offers an opportunity to look back on the year that has passed, consider the possibilities of the year ahead, and strengthen our connections with family, friends, and community.

At SUNY Downstate, the many cultures, faiths, and traditions represented throughout our community enrich who we are as an institution. Rosh Hashanah reminds us of the importance of compassion, kindness, reflection, and our shared responsibility to care for one another—values that resonate deeply with our mission of service.
