Bureau of Indian Affairs Higher Education Program

This program provides supplemental financial assistance to eligible American Indian/Alaska Native students seeking a baccalaureate degree. Graduate student resources consist of a grant through the American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC) which offers financial assistance to students pursuing post-baccalaureate degree programs. To be eligible, students must:

  • be a member of a tribe recognized by the Bureau;
  • be one-quarter or more Native American;
  • have unmet financial need;
  • be working toward a four-year degree (baccalaureate seeking) or attending an accredited graduate degree program. Both undergraduate and graduate students must maintain full-time status;
  • complete application requirements

As a majority of the federally recognized tribes are administering the baccalaureate grant program for their members, we advised students to call their tribe first. If you need further assistance, contact:
