Program Director's Letter

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. The mission of our program is to provide residents with a well-rounded training experience with an emphasis on patient-centered pharmacotherapy service, education, and research. As the only academic medical center in Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island, SUNY Downstate Medical Center offers the perfect learning environment for residents as our practitioners are accustomed to challenging trainees and cultivating the practice of evidence-based medicine. We offer a robust list of rotations that include internal medicine, infectious diseases, critical care, pediatrics, ambulatory care, solid organ transplant, emergency medicine, toxicology, pharmacy administration, and informatics and customize learning experiences and objectives to the interests of our residents. Our residency-trained, board-certified clinical pharmacists will serve as primary preceptors and role models for the residents.

Finally, scholarly activities will be conducted through research and publications. It is these elements that prepare graduates of our program to pursue a PGY2 pharmacy residency or clinical pharmacist position. It is our goal to ensure the success of the residents as it is a reflection of our training and commitment. We are seeking candidates that hunger for knowledge and are committed to pharmacy practice. You are welcome to learn more about the program on our website and may contact me with any further questions. I look forward to meeting you!
