ENT/Otolaryngology Club Over the Years

Since its founding in 2016, the ENT/Otolaryngology Club has served to bring information and opportunities from the field to the SUNY Downstate student body. Over the past six years, the club has hosted faculty lecture series on topics ranging from congenital airway anomalies to facial reconstructive procedures. In addition to these didactics, the club has coordinated hands-on educational sessions including sessions focusing on suturing skills and the management of airway emergencies using patient simulation models to perform cricothyrotomies. The ENT/Otolaryngology club has a long-standing tradition of community outreach, providing student volunteers to participate in screenings during Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week.

Looking to the Future

Recently, the club has expanded its leadership to include the following positions: Journal Club Chair, Events & Volunteerism Chair, Alumni Relations Liaison, and a Diversity & Inclusion Liaison, making history as the first surgical club within the College of Medicine to offer such roles. This academic year, the club will continue to host faculty lectures, journal clubs, alumni panels, community outreach events, and practical labs. The club’s leadership team also plans to host a tracheostomy lab and a head & neck ultrasound lab. Building upon the foundations set by the previous year’s club leadership, the current executive board of the ENT/Otolaryngology Club hopes to expand awareness of and enhance interest in the field of otolaryngology amongst the Downstate College of Medicine student body.
