STRENGTHS: Clinical experience, including variety of different hospitals. ER Clerkship and Medicine Clerkship. Opportunities for community involvement. A proactive student body. The metropolitan location.
LIKED BEST: In addition to meeting my significant other, I enjoyed collaborating with my peers for both medical and extra curricular pursuits.

Barnard College

STRENGTHS: Wide variety of cases, cultural diversity, location, King’s County. The other students I met, the Academic Development Office, Anatomy.

STRENGTHS: The high level of clinical training/responsibility/exposure. The faculty is great.

City College

STRENGTHS: Strong clinical exposure, diverse array of pathology reflecting cultural diversity of the community served. Developing cultural awareness in treating patients of different backgrounds. Strong teaching faculty in basic science years. Financial support in the form of awards and scholarships. Excellent opportunity to undertake electives in developing countries during 4th year.
LIKED BEST: Downstate community camaraderie mirrored in campus-wide activities, e.g. Health fairs, student-faculty skit show, winter ball, etc. Faculty’s commitment to teaching students.

Columbia University

STRENGTHS: Clinical years. Role models are attendings.
LIKED Best: My electives in my specialty. Career guidance.

STRENGTHS: Clinical experience at KCHC is invaluable, especially after rotating with new interns who graduated from other schools. Easy to see the difference in comfort level and clinical acumen.

Cornell University

STRENGTHS: Urban location. County hospital experience and exposure to other hospitals so I could compare.
LIKED BEST: Close to home. Decreased amount of loans compared to private medical schools. Teaching attendings @ KCHC.

STRENGTHS: Clinical rotations were exceptional. Kings County Hospital is a phenomenal place to be a medical student.
LIKED BEST: Being in New York with less cost for medical school.

STRENGTHS: The availability of attendings to teach and discuss cases. The broad spectrum of diseases that ranged from commonplace to rare. The opportunity for hands on learning.

STRENGTHS: The strengths were in the 3rd year during our rotations thru KCH & UHB. The hands-on experience here is much greater than other places as well as the diverse pathology of the cases.
LIKED BEST: The tuition here is much lower here than other schools for a comparable education.

Dartmouth College

STRENGTHS: Excellent clinical experience.
LIKED BEST: Great faculty. Diverse pathology during clinical rotations. Small group learning.

Hampton University

STRENGTHS: Hands-on experience. Good clinical teaching atmosphere.
LIKED BEST: The friends I met along the way.

Hofstra University

STRENGTHS: Working at a county hospital with a really diverse patient population. The academic setting and the great faculty and the fact that they are very approachable. Good clinical training.

Marymount College


Marymount College STRENGTHS: Diverse patient population. Excellent faculty, many graduates of school or residency programs. They are dedicated to our education and to the patients of Brooklyn.
LIKED BEST: Clinical rotations in NY area. Many extra curricular activities to choose from.

New York University

STRENGTHS: The Medicine clerkship and Sub I at KCH/Downstate. They really prepare you and teach you how to be a good MD.
LIKED BEST: It is cheaper than other schools and you get a great education and good residency placement.

STRENGTHS: Patient and case variety.
LIKED BEST: The students and faculty and residents. Faculty and residents are very approachable.

STRENGTHS: Great clinical experience. I had the opportunity to perform many procedures during the clinical years. The faculty is responsive to student suggestions and complaints.
LIKED BEST: The best part was the students.

STRENGTHS: Great clinical experience – very good immersion into clinical medicine at an early time. Great pathology seen. Very diverse population and wonderful place to do subinternship.
LIKED BEST: Meeting my significant other.

Sophie Davis

STRENGTHS: Exposure to clinical pathology. Faculty is amazing. Hands-on experience incomparable.
LIKED BEST: Faculty is great. They were the best teachers that I have had in a long time.

STRENGTHS: The clinical years were very good. Requesting attendings is an asset. Evaluations at the end of the clerkships were very helpful.
LIKED BEST: The people I met and the mentors I have. I enjoyed my overall experience.

STRENGTHS: The variety of the clinical cases lead to excellent clinical background. The availability of Dean’s office staff. The review sessions held in 1st and 2nd years.
LIKED BEST: The caring atmosphere among faculty.

STRENGTHS: Excellent hands-on clinical experience. Diverse patient population & student body population. Brooklyn offers proximity to NYC and its own unique culture.

Syracuse University

STRENGTHS: Most of the faculty are knowledgeable, approachable. The resources are available if needed. The clinical experience is the best out of all the hospitals I have rotated.
LIKED BEST: I can count on SUNY Downstate to look out for me. All the faculty and staff try very hard to help me get to my goal. People are very friendly, nice and supportive. They were able to get their students through all kinds of crisis.

Univ. North Carolina – Chapel Hill

STRENGTHS: 3rd & 4th year experience, we get lots of experience working with patients. We had a certain amount of independence that I don’t think other schools have.
LIKED BEST: I loved all 4 years of medical school but I especially enjoyed the clinical years. Sub I was also a wonderful experience.
