Accepted COM Student Resources
Congratulations to the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine Entering Class of 2029!!!
We know you have choices regarding which medical school to attend, and we are delighted that you chose to apply to SUNY Downstate.
In April, we will email instructions on how to submit your admissions deposit, which confirms your decision to attend SUNY Downstate in August, 2025. If you are holding multiple acceptances after April 15, we expect you to narrow your choices to three medical schools. Please refer to our posted deadlines.
In the first week of May, we will email instructions for the clearance process that must be completed prior to registration day. If you are going to be out of the country this summer, and wish to complete the clearance process early (you should allow 6–8 weeks to complete your health clearance and an American Heart Association’s CPR certification course), email medadmissions@downstate.edu and we will provide the clearance instructions to you prior to the first week of May.
Applying for a Financial Aid Package
- Go to the Office of Financial Aid web page
- You should complete your FAFSA form as soon as possible in order to have maximum lead time for financial planning and for consultation about financial options and sources. We recommend applying before March 15 whenever possible. For those of you who will have more than one of acceptance for medical school, applying now for financial aid will allow you to have financial aid information to assist with your decision process.

Why SUNY Downstate?
Shadow a Student Program is currently suspended
COVID Update: Along with campus tours, we will be hosting a general chat session with our currently enrolled students, Dean/Director of Student Admissions for applicants who have completed their interviews during the preceding month. The general chat session with our students will be held on the 1st Friday of every month beginning October 2, 2024 – May 7, 2025.
All accepted applicants have the opportunity to visit our campus again once we resume in person tours:
- To attend classes, meet with students, tour the residence halls or to learn more about student life
- To schedule a visit, send an email to medadmissions@downstate.edu indicating the day you would like to shadow. A minimum of 7 business days notice is required prior to the date you would like to schedule your visit.
Curriculum Informational Video Clips
In case you were not able to view these during your interview day or would like to view them again. The video clips are strictly informational, not promotional (i.e., we didn't hire a PR firm to make them). They feature SUNY Downstate students answering questions submitted by medical school applicants (such as yourself), in a candid, unscripted format as though the SUNY Downstate students were in this room speaking directly with you.
