Ronald and Jeannie Schiavone

In appreciation for his commitment, dedication and enduring contributions to SUNY Downstate.

Ronald and Jeannie Schiavone

Ronald and Jeannie Schiavone established The Schiavone Institute at Downstate medical Center in 2011—via their generous gift of $1 million—in order to promote the development of innovative cardiovascular therapies and treatments. The Schiavone institute operates under the leadership of Dr. Jeffrey S. Borer—renowned cardiovascular researcher and clinician—continuously building upon Dr. Borer’s extensive international reputation for the advancement of cardiovascular care.

Ronald A. Schiavone (1925–2011) was an extraordinary man and a voracious reader, noted for his unique breadth and depth of knowledge on a wide variety of subjects. His ethical standards, keen mind, ever-present sense of humor and lifelong generosity were well known to many.

Jeannie Schiavone, Ronnies’s wife of 30 years, is an equally extraordinary presence, leaving many a memorable Impression through her warm and welcoming manner and inspirational quality of her character.

Dr. Borer and SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University are profoundly grateful to Ronnie and Jeannie Schiavone—as well as children Christopher, Cora, Elissa, and Andy—for their ongoing legacy of visionary support.
