Dr. Lisa Merlin Receives AUPN Faculty Leadership Award

Congratulations to Lisa R. Merlin, M.D., FAAN, FANA, FAES, Distinguished Professor and Vice-Chair for Education in the Departments of Neurology, Physiology, and Pharmacology, and Director of the Clinical Neurosciences Pathway, for receiving the Association of University Professors of Neurology (AUPN) Faculty Leadership Award!

Dr. Merlin’s career stands out for her groundbreaking NIH-funded epilepsy research and her dedication to education. This AUPN award honors faculty members who demonstrate exceptional leadership within their departments. Daniel Rosenbaum, M.D., Distinguished Service Professor and Neurology Department Chair, nominated Dr. Merlin for her outstanding leadership skills and commitment to advancing the department’s mission.

For over two decades, Dr. Merlin has led neuro-education at Downstate, introducing the Clinical Neurosciences Pathway and launching a neurology residency program focused on community health. Her work has earned her prestigious awards, including the ANA Distinguished Neurology Teacher Award and the AAN Clerkship Directors Innovation Award.

Dr. Merlin will receive complimentary registration for the upcoming AUPN Annual Meeting in September, where she will be honored with a certificate and a special gift during the Business Meeting & Awards Ceremony.
