Lailash Ludhiana, BSN, RNCongratulations to School of Public Health (SOPH) student Kailash Ludhiana, BSN, RN, on her appointment to Queens Community Board 10, which encompasses the neighborhoods of Howard Beach and Ozone Park. Her term began on April 1 and will run through March 2025.

As a Community Board representative, Ms. Ludhiana will assess neighborhood needs, meet with city agencies, and make recommendations during the City’s budget process. She hopes to have a direct impact on the issues affecting the community.

Ms. Ludhiana is pursuing an MPH with plans to graduate from Downstate in December. She credits Daniel Ehlke, Ph.D., associate professor of Health Policy and Management, for inspiring her to set and achieve academic goals.

During her academic journey at the School of Public Health, Ms. Ludhiana worked on several impactful research projects. Her Applied Practice Experience (APEX) project—a review of teaching modalities for safe and effective Foley catheter insertion—could benefit medical and emergency room patients. This study is being conducted with guidance from PGY2 Urology resident Danielle Gordon, who earned M.D. and MPH degrees from Downstate. A second significant study by Ms. Ludhiana examined the risks and benefits of cannabis use for mothers and children during pregnancy.

Born and raised in India, Ms. Ludhiana is the Lead School Nurse at a private special needs school in Manhattan. She is passionate about providing quality healthcare services to children and plans to dedicate her career to this cause. Her dream is to create a non-profit organization that will aid unaccompanied migrant children in navigating the challenges of living in a new country.

Ms. Ludhiana is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the Honor Society of Nursing; Sigma Alpha Pi, the National Society of Leadership and Success; and Phi Theta Kappa, the Honor Society of Academic Success.
