"Downstate Honors" Event to Recognize Years of Service, Resiliency Awards, and Chancellor’s Award Recipients

Following more than two years lost to the COVID pandemic, Downstate is proud to resume its Employee Recognition Program (ERP) to recognize staff marking milestone anniversaries during the last three years (2020, 2021, and 2022). Along with the ERP, four additional awards will celebrate The Distinguished Faculty Rank Awards, SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence, Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in the Classified Service, and the inaugural Downstate Resiliency Award recipients.
The Distinguished Faculty Award is the most prestigious faculty award at SUNY. Appointment constitutes a promotion to SUNY’s highest academic rank, conferred solely by The State University of New York Board of Trustees. The four categories include Distinguished Professorship, Distinguished Service Professorship, Distinguished Teaching Professorship, and Distinguished Librarian.
The Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence are System-level honors acknowledging system-wide recognition for consistently superior professionals. These programs underscore SUNY’s commitment to sustaining intellectual vibrancy, advancing the boundaries of knowledge, providing the highest quality of instruction, and serving the public good. The awards provide SUNY-wide recognition in five categories: Faculty Service, Librarianship, Professional Service, Scholarship and Creative Activities, and Teaching.
The Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in the Classified Service are System-level awards established by SUNY to give System-wide recognition for superior performance and extraordinary achievement by employees in the Classified Service. These awards demonstrate SUNY’s commitment to individuals who provide superior service to its students and the community.
The Employee Recognition Program will recognize employees who have served at SUNY Downstate for ten or more years. The Downstate Resiliency Award celebrates individual students and staff who uphold the attributes and characteristics of advocacy, innovation, leadership, and teamwork. A separate award—Synergist—will be presented to employees who exhibited exceptional teamwork during one of the most trying times in global healthcare history.
