SOHP Announces New Fall Programs

By Office of the President | Apr 17, 2023

The School of Health Professions (SOHP) plans to launch two exciting new programs in the fall of 2023. The Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) MS degree, a hybrid program, will prepare students for clinical work with persons with disabilities by applying behavior modification and management approaches. ABA is considered a robust and evidenced-based intervention, particularly effective with neurodevelopmental disabilities (ND) such as intellectual disability and autism. It is also an efficacious intervention for other severe disabilities where persons must embrace new behavior for rehabilitation.

The ABA MS program will produce professionals whose goals include improving and expanding capacity for early and accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other NDs, starting early childhood and extending through adulthood. These professionals will also join other culturally responsive neurodevelopmental providers who understand the family, social, and community contexts of children and adults with ASD and other NDs.

The program offers two tracks: a 36-credit option that includes a comprehensive examination; and a 42-credit option that includes completing a thesis project. Students on the second track will typically pursue further research/academic study beyond the MS degree. The program can be completed in three full-time semesters. The program includes 150 hours of supervised practicum.

SOHP also plans to launch its post-professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program for fully credentialed and practicing occupational therapists who want to advance their knowledge of leadership, research and program evaluation, policy, and systems advocacy/change. Most graduates of this post-professional OTD program will eventually transition from clinical service providers to leading thinkers in the field, addressing policy and/or becoming academic leaders. This program will be offered 100 percent online.
