Downstate Launches New Equity-Focused MHA Degree Program

By Office of the President | Feb 7, 2023

Congratulations to Dean Demissie and the School of Public Health (SPH) faculty and staff on the planned fall 2023 launch of a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) Program. The new MHA program will provide the next generation of healthcare leaders with the skills necessary to create and sustain optimal and equitable organizational performance in a globally complex and dynamic healthcare landscape. Classes will be held at the SPH main campus in Brooklyn and the SPH Manhattan Extension site in Bryant Park.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, healthcare administration jobs are projected to grow by 28 percent from 2021 to 2031. Students will advance skills in healthcare leadership, management, operations, finance, and health information technologies, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion. The program is designed to meet the needs of working professionals by offering evening courses, affordable tuition, and flexibility for students to participate online at either campus. Students will be eligible for tuition support through Downstate training programs sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration and the National Institutes of Health.

The MHA program is also designed to provide students with the mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities necessary to become leaders in our healthcare systems. Graduates of this program will be well-positioned to ascend into leadership positions as CEOs, CFOs, directors of community health centers, managers of healthcare practices, or healthcare consultants.

If you are interested in learning more about the new MHA program at a virtual information session on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 3:00 PM., please register by email at publichealth@downstate.edu.
