Dr. Jeffrey Birnbaum to Be Honored by Lorenzo Jackson Foundation:

Will Be Recognized for Commitment to Youth in Fight Against HIV/AIDS

 

Brooklyn, NY - The Lorenzo Jackson Foundation will honor Jeffrey Birnbaum, MD, MPH, for his efforts to educate young people about HIV, the AIDS virus, through the Health and Education Alternatives for Teens (HEAT) program. Dr. Birnbaum is program director of HEAT, as well as an assistant professor in SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University’s Department of Pediatrics and Graduate Program in Public Health and director of the Family, Adolescent, and Children's Experience at SUNY (FACES) Network.

Dr. Birnbaum will receive The Lorenzo Jackson Foundation Youth Commitment Award at the Foundation’s First Annual Benefit Gala at Rush Arts Gallery on Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in Manhattan.

Dr. Birnbaum received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate in 1986 and master of public health degree in tropical disease and public health from Columbia University in 1991. He completed his pediatric residency at SUNY Downstate and Kings County Hospital Center in 1989. His research primarily has focused on HIV-infected youth and high-risk youth.

The mission of the Lorenzo Jackson Foundation is to inspire young people living with HIV/AIDS to move forward with their lives and pursue their education.
