Jul 18, 2008

Brooklyn, NY - SUNY Downstate student Lillian Guenther was among 42 medical students selected to participate in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute-National Institutes of Health Research Scholars Program.

The HHMI-NIH Research Scholars Program was established to encourage students to become physician-scientists. As part of the program, Ms. Guenther will have an opportunity to conduct biomedical research full time for a year.

“I am really honored and excited by the opportunity to participate in this program. I hope to use this unique opportunity at the National Institutes of Health to conduct a project in cancer biology that will make me a strong physician-scientist in the future, which is what I aspire to be in my career,” Ms. Guenther said.
