Dr. Lori Escallier Shares Nursing Accreditation Expertise in South Korea

Lori Escallier, Ph.D., RN, CPNP-PC, FAAN, Dean of Downstate’s College of Nursing, recently traveled to South Korea to share U.S. approaches to nursing education, evaluation, and accreditation with the Korean Nurses Association and the Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing Education.

During the three-day visit, Dr. Escallier presented an overview of how nursing programs in the United States are evaluated and accredited. Her sessions covered student learning outcomes, program effectiveness, faculty involvement, evidence-based decision-making, and the use of assessment to support continuous improvement.

She emphasized that accreditation is about more than meeting a set of requirements. It helps nursing programs promote excellence, encourage innovation, and better prepare nurses to care for patients and communities.

Dr. Escallier also met with Korean nursing leaders to discuss opportunities to strengthen their evaluation and accreditation systems. The conversations focused on connecting accreditation standards more closely to educational outcomes and ensuring that nursing graduates are prepared to meet the changing needs of patients and communities.

Dr. Escallier currently serves as chair of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education Board of Commissioners and is serving her second term in that national leadership role. Her invitation to South Korea reflects the international reach of her work and Downstate’s continued contribution to improving nursing education and healthcare.
