July 4, 2026 Holiday Observance

By Department of Human Resources | Jun 3, 2026

Independence Day (July 4, 2026) falls on a Saturday this year. Civil Service has not designated an alternate day for observance.

Employees who are eligible to observe holidays and are not scheduled or required to work on Saturday, July 4, will receive compensatory time off in lieu of the holiday.

Employees in UUP, PEF, CSEA, PBANYS, and NYSCOPBA who are required to work on July 4 will receive holiday pay. Employees who have elected to waive this payment will instead receive compensatory time off. Managerial/Confidential (M/C) employees who are required to work on the holiday will receive a compensatory day off.

Eligible part-time employees may observe the holiday only if it falls on a day they are regularly scheduled to work, in accordance with applicable rules.

Compensatory time earned in connection with the July 4, 2026 holiday may be used on or after July 5, 2026. Such time is subject to standard leave policies and, where applicable, must be used within one year of accrual. Use of compensatory time requires prior supervisory approval.
