A Reminder About The Importance of Cancer Prevention
During National Cancer Prevention Month, we want to emphasize the significance of proactive measures in reducing cancer risk. While the topic of cancer prevention can feel overwhelming, even minor adjustments can profoundly impact our well-being. Whether it involves quitting smoking, undergoing screenings such as mammograms or prostate exams, shielding our skin from UV rays, or being mindful of our diet, each choice contributes to a healthier future.
Every endeavor, regardless of its scale, contributes to prioritizing our health, particularly in cancer prevention. Maintaining regular check-ups, embracing a balanced diet, or integrating exercise into our daily routines—every step taken toward prevention is invaluable.
Cancer prevention and early detection can make a difference. We celebrate Director of Nursing Ruth O’Donnell MSN, RN,and her very personal journey of breast cancer diagnosis, her treatment right here at UHD, and how she continues to maintain her health.
Voluntary Self Disclosure of a Disability 2023–2024
In February 2022, Governor Hochul established The Office of the Chief Disability Officer (CDO) to advocate on behalf of persons with disabilities. The CDO is collecting information to help determine the number of people with disabilities currently working in New York.
Pursuant to Executive Order 31, Committing New York State to Becoming a Model Employer with People With Disabilities, the CDO is requesting all state agencies to complete a Voluntary Self Disclosure of a Disability 2023 survey. This survey is completely anonymous and the information is sent directly to the CDO.
The deadline to complete the survey is February 23, 2024. Please reference The State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University as agency of employment.

Laboratory Customer Satisfaction Survey Period Extended to Friday, February 16, 2024
Dear Colleagues,
In the Pathology Department, we are committed to making our UHD vision, of “The best place to get care and the best place to give care,” a reality. In order to make sure we’re meeting your needs, you’re invited to share your opinions by completing an online survey regarding the University Hospital at Downstate Laboratory Services. By rating our services, we will be able to identify improvement opportunities and enhance the efficiency of UHD Laboratory Services. All responders and responses will be kept confidential and anonymous. Sub-optimal responses will require action plans from our staff, ensuring that issues are corrected. We would appreciate it if you take a few minutes to access the short survey by clicking on the following link or QR Code and complete the questionnaire.
