As both an ER resident and a woman of color at SUNY Downstate, my voice is valued and celebrated. I want to use this voice to contribute to an infrastructure that empowers residents of different backgrounds to advocate for patients in the community that we serve. Our DEI Council supports residents and faculty in their endeavors to reduce healthcare disparities by dismantling systemic racism and addressing social determinants of health. As a co-chair of this council, I plan to support and sponsor my peers in pursuit of our common goal - to eliminate racial healthcare inequities by increasing representation and engaging the resident body in social justice, advocacy, and activism.

I am a PGY5, Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellow. I've attended school and training throughout the U.S, and excited to be back home in NYC. I'm honored to take up the position of DEIHC co-Chair. With the help of my compatriots, I plan to sustain initiatives related to social justice and promote solidarity within our community.

I am currently PGY-2 in the department of Psychiatry. I moved to the US for the start of my residency in June 2019 from Pakistan and felt quite at home in the melting pot of diversity that is New York City. As co-chair of DEIHC my goal is to combat racism and violence at a systemic level by promoting initiatives targeting social justice and inclusivity in the work force and within in our community. With the help of like-minded individuals in the DEIHC, I hope to see these initiatives make a substantial difference in the lives of the patients we serve.
