Section of Breast Surgery
The section of Breast Surgery evaluates a large number of women presenting for benign
                  and malignant breast conditions. Breast cancer remains a leading cause of death among
                  women in the United States. With a wide range of advanced breast cancer treatment
                  options, our dedicated team of breast and reconstructive surgeons, oncologists, radiologists,
                  and other specialists tailor therapies to patients' specific diagnosis. 
Our compassionate team of specialists understand the sensitivities involved in the
                  diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and benign breast disease and are committed
                  to taking care of patients every step of the way.
Breast care services at University Hospital of Downstate include:
- Consultation
 - Annual screenings
 - High-risk breast surveillance program for women with an elevated risk of breast cancer
 - Medical oncology and radiation oncology
 
We offer a wide range of inpatient and outpatient procedures, including:
- Sentinel node biopsy and axillary node dissections
 - Breast conservation surgery (lumpectomy), and excisional biopsy
 - Mastectomy, including nipple sparing and skin sparing techniques
 - Oncoplastic reconstruction
 - Reconstruction surgery
 - Implant reconstruction, including pre-pectoral implants
 
In addition to therapeutic options, our radiology service provides state of the art
                  diagnostic breast imaging including:
- 3D mammograms, which combine multiple breast images (X-rays) to provide a superior three-dimensional view of breast tissue. 3D mammography is especially beneficial for women with dense breast tissue.
 
- Breast ultrasound, with cyst aspiration
 - Breast MRI
 - Stereotactic mammography biopsy
 - Ultrasound-guided core biopsy
 - MRI-guided core biopsy
