About the Program

Our program's aim is designed to train well-rounded and proficient diagnostic radiologists with focus on the general core competencies: Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Professionalism, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Practice based Learning and Improvement and Systems Based Practice.

Rotations

Residents rotate through all major subspecialty areas of radiology in four-week blocks including Neuroradiology, Chest, Body, GI/GU, Musculoskeletal, Ultrasound, Mammography, Pediatric, Nuclear medicine and Interventional radiology. Seniors residents also have the opportunity to choose three 2-month mini-fellowships during their fourth year, after completing the core exam.

Mentor program

All of our incoming radiology residents will be assigned faculty mentors. It is the job of the mentor to promote learning, monitor progress, provide support and advising. Residents can approach their mentors for any problem that should arise and all discussed topics will be held in confidence. Residents can change mentors after proceeding through the proper channels and clearance by the Program Director. Mentors and residents are encouraged to meet at least twice a year. Mentors will provide educational milestones reflecting reach residents educational goals, interests and career plans.

Call Responsibilities

We have a Night float system that has one junior resident assigned to Kings County Hospital Center from 8PM-8AM six consecutive nights a week and an additional senior resident assigned to University Hospital Brooklyn from 8PM-8AM six consecutive nights a week. The night float rotation provides an opportunity for residents to work independently, make influential clinical decisions and strengthen their diagnostic skills.

First years start a buddy call system after Labor Day where residents will always be paired with senior residents for improved learning and support.

Short calls are divided among residents at both Kings County Hospital and University Hospital Brooklyn.

Resident Responsibility

• Pre-dictate and formal sign out for all rotations
• Interaction with referring physicians
• Self Study and participation in daily conferences

Conferences

• 8 am and noon daily attending led 45 minute conferences
• Interventional radiology conference every Wednesday Morning
• Physics lecture every Thursday morning
• Multiude of Interdisciplinary conferences (such as Pulmonary conference, GI conference, Tumor board, etc.)
• Monthly Grand Rounds
• Resident run lectures every Friday (such as Radiographics, Resident as Teacher, Journal club, etc.)
• Special yearly courses (such as AIRP, Kanal Physics, University of Indiana Prep‑for‑Call Exam, University of Florida ER Simulaton Exam, In‑house ER Call Prep, NYRS)
