SUNY Downstate's radiologists and staff work with our referring physicians to provide the highest quality diagnostic and interventional imaging services in an academic center serving the East Flatbush community. We have over 30 board certified faculty members and physicists that represent every subspecialty of radiology including neuroradiology, cardiothoracic, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, pediatric, ultrasound, breast and nuclear radiology. Every member of our staff is committed to patient safety and comfort.
The Department of Radiology provides a full range of diagnostic and interventional/therapeutic procedures. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technology in all of its divisions and is staffed with experienced radiologists practicing in subspecialty areas of diagnostic imaging. All of the physicians in the department are board certified.
Diagnostic Radiology is organized into the divisions of Adult Radiology (chest and bone), Pediatric Radiology, Neuroradiology, Ultrasound, Gastrointestinal Radiology, Uroradiology, Computerized Tomography/ Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Sonography, Special Procedures/ Interventional Radiology and Mammography.

The physicians are available for “problem solving” in all aspects of diagnostic imaging.
The radiologists in this division specialize in skeletal, chest and plain film radiography.
Their responsibility is to help the referring physician determine the appropriate
diagnostic/therapeutic approach for patient workup.

The Division of Cross Sectional Body Imaging, utilizing both computerized tomography
and magnetic resonance imaging, offers consultative services with access to the most
recent developments in the technology. The department is equipped with two Philips
Brilliance 64 MultiSlice CT Scanners, and a Siemens 1.5 Tesla MRI Scanner.

The interventionalist members of the department supply a complex series of services
from basic diagnostic angiographic imaging for the detection of occlusive vascular
disease to the more involved aspects of percutaneous abscess drainage, angioplasty
and stenting procedures for obstructed luminal strictures, to note a few. Please contact
the appropriate member of the division for detailed discussion of the patient’s problem
in order to establish the appropriate treatment protocol.

The physicians perform all contrast studies of the gastrointestinal tract. High resolution
mucosal imaging is available for detailed studies of the upper and lower gastrointestinal
tract.

The physicians supply imaging and biopsy procedures with state-of-the-art technology.

All isotopic procedures approved by the licensing agencies are performed by the physicians
in this division. The division is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging, including
SPECT and PET technology.

The pediatric radiologist functions in a similar manner to the adult radiologist,
but is limited to the pediatric age group. Also, the pediatric radiologist performs
many of the subspecialty studies (e.g., sonography).

The physicians perform consultative services in all aspects of diagnostic ultrasound.
This includes standard anatomic imaging, duplex doppler, colorflow doppler and intracavitary
imaging (e.g., transvaginal, transrectal, etc.).
