Residency Program
We are the only pharmacy residency program in an academic medical center in Brooklyn. With a student body of approximately 1,738 and almost 8,000 faculty and staff, SUNY Downstate Medical Center serves Brooklyn's 2.5 million residents while promoting health education, research, and patient care. SUNY Downstate Medical Center comprises a College of Medicine, Colleges of Nursing and Health Related Professions, Schools of Graduate Studies and Public Health, and University Hospital of Brooklyn. It is affiliated with three colleges of pharmacy. It also includes a major research complex and biotechnology facilities.

PGY-1 Program
This Postgraduate Year One (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency is a 12-month post-graduate year one program starting July 1st that is designed to provide residents with a well-rounded training experience that guides their growth as clinical pharmacists with an emphasis on education, service, and research. Residents will gain experience in providing medication therapy management to a diverse patient population, improving the medication utilization process, conducting research, and providing education and training to patients, students, and other healthcare professionals. Individuals graduating from this program will be prepared to practice as clinical pharmacists in teaching or community hospitals, as well as to pursue further specialized training in PGY-2 pharmacy residency programs.
PGY-2 Program
The Postgraduate Year Two (PGY-2) Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Program offers its resident an outstanding training in Infectious Diseases pharmacotherapy. The goal of our 12-month program is to ensure that the resident develops an expertise in delivering high quality pharmaceutical care in Infectious Diseases. The program creates an educational environment in which the resident develops competencies necessary for becoming a clinical specialist in Infectious Diseases through direct patient care, teaching, and clinical research. The resident is an integral part of the Infectious Diseases consult service. Teaching opportunities are available in conjunction with Touro College of Pharmacy, including teaching certificate program, didactic lecture, and small classroom teaching. A graduate of our program will be a competent and confident clinician in the management of infectious diseases pharmacotherapy. Also, the graduate will be prepared to work as a clinical specialist in Infectious Diseases or antimicrobial stewardship clinical pharmacist with the qualification to be appointed as a faculty in a college of pharmacy.
