Our Facility
The East Wing
Our facility consists of 5 Universal Patient Rooms separated by a control room. We have an iStan, a NOELLE and Victoria high fidelity robotic mannequins that facilitate the identification of pathologic physical exam findings and foster the development of clinical reasoning and procedural skills.
Some examples of our task trainers include phantom torso's and arms permitting trainees to practice central and peripheral intravenous line placement, transvaginal ultrasound, airway mangement, breast exam, pelvic exam and rectal exam. A compact ultrasound system and additional tissue phantoms allow our trainees to learn bedside limited ultrasound and to practice ultrasound-guided techniques for invasive procedures.
An integrated computer based learning system tracks educational sessions and manages and serves real time clinical educational content on mounted monitors in the simulated patient rooms.
Learner Check-in and Check-out Kiosk
There are two check-in and check-out Kiosks in the Simulation Center the first unit is located on the elevator landing. The other kiosk is to the left of the waiting area.
3 Debriefing Rooms
Debriefing by skilled instructors are core to the learning experience. Through constructive debriefing sessions, students observe their digitally recorded simulation sessions. Motivational discussion of performance and errors address specific clinical challenges and polish diagnostic and management skills. Reduced seating for social distancing.
3 High Fidelity Universal Patient Rooms
Istan |
New Born Baby Hal and Super Tory High Fidelity Simulator |
Noelle and Victoria Birthing Simulators |
Fully-equipped, reconfigurable rooms simulate surgery, labor and delivery during emergent and routine scenarios. Communication strategies and crisis resource management skills are taught using high fidelity computerized adult and neonatal mannequins. Active learning in these real-world rooms enhances the retention and application of target skills and behaviors. Complex medical decision making and emergent procedures are performed on high fidelity adult and pediatric mannequins in the re-created Emergency Department. Students actively learn the early identification and practical management of severe illness while instilling principles of multidisciplinary teamwork.
Multi-purpose Room
Students gain proficiency in venous and arterial access, lumbar puncture, suturing, and ear and eye exams utilizing a variety of task trainers in a small group learning environment. Reduced seating for social distancing.
8 Control Room Stations
Behind a one-way mirror, computer work stations control the simulated scenarios. The rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment for viewing, digitally recording, real-time communication, video conferencing and web streaming.
1 Operating Room
Fully-equipped, reconfigurable rooms simulate surgery, labor and delivery during emergent and routine scenarios. Communication strategies and crisis resource management skills are taught using high fidelity computerized adult and neonatal mannequins.
1 Special Procedures Room
Students are exposed to a range of minimally invasive surgeries and procedures using high fidelity laparoscopic, endoscopic, and intravascular simulators.

16 Standardized Patient Rooms
Students hone interpersonal skills while interviewing and examining experienced actors in fully equipped exam rooms. The actors play roles of patients and family members enabling students to enhance their communication proficiency in ordinary and difficult situations. The standardized patients provide students with immediate, one-to-one feedback on their performance.
