Nursing RN-BS PRogram

Every day, Downstate employees bring knowledge, skill, and commitment to our patients, students, and community. You know our mission, contribute to it, and help us #KeepCareClose. Downstate can also help you prepare for your next opportunity.

For registered nurses with an associate degree, the College of Nursing’s RN-BS Program offers a practical path to a bachelor’s degree. Our full-time, CCNE-accredited program can be completed in three semesters, with online coursework and one 37.5-hour community health clinical experience that may be completed locally. It is designed for working nurses who want to strengthen their clinical knowledge, prepare for leadership, or continue to graduate study.

The 2026–2027 RN-BS application cycle is open through January 2027, with classes beginning in Fall 2027. Early applications are encouraged.

Downstate employees interested in other academic and professional pathways can explore their options at the Annual Fall Open House on Thursday, September 24, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on the first floor of the Public Health Academic Building.

Representatives from the College of Nursing, School of Health Professions, School of Public Health, and School of Graduate Studies will be available to discuss undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and advanced certificate programs. Offerings include nursing, healthcare administration, public health, health informatics, occupational and physical therapy, physician assistant studies, midwifery, diagnostic medical sonography, applied behavior analysis, and biomedical sciences.

The Open House is an opportunity to ask questions about admission requirements, prerequisites, curricula, application timelines, and the program that best fits your experience and goals.

Advancing your education does not require leaving the institution or community you already know. Learn from Downstate faculty, build on the work you do each day, and earn a credential from the institution where you already make a difference.
