Redetha Abraham-Nichols Receives 2024 NYS Senate Woman of Distinction Award

Congratulations to Redetha Abraham-Nichols, DNP, MRA, RN, who was among the more than 60 honorees receiving New York State Senate, 26th Annual Women of Distinction awards celebrating women working to facilitate stronger communities and to create a better New York State.

Dr. Abrahams-Nichols has worked in healthcare for 26 years, including over a decade as assistant director of nursing in Downstate’s Emergency Department. She served on the frontlines of the pandemic at Downstate and has witnessed multiple attempts by the state to close the hospital she loves so much. Dr. Abrahams-Nichols, who also serves as Chapter President of United University Professions, was nominated by NYS Senator Zellnor Myrie for her work at SUNY Downstate.

During her 26-year career, Dr. Abrahams-Nichols has served as the Assistant Director of Nursing in the Emergency Department, where she exhibited exceptional leadership during both routine operations and crises, including the challenging landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also held key positions such as Assistant Director of Nursing Quality and Assistant Director of Nursing in Outpatient Services at Downstate. In these roles, she implemented innovative strategies to enhance patient safety, improve healthcare outcomes, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
