Welcome to 2024!

As 2024 has come and we are moving swiftly through January, I am hopeful and enthusiastic about the possibilities ahead. SUNY Downstate’s history is filled with innovation, discovery, and progress. I have no doubt our institution will continue along this path into the future with discoveries, innovations, and progress.

Our students, faculty, and staff consistently demonstrate a deep capacity for extraordinary achievements in the realms of medical research, education, or patient care, overcoming challenges and stretching the boundaries to leave indelible marks on the healthcare and medical education landscape.

Let us commit to nurturing and carrying forward the spirit of collaboration, dedication, and the intellectual curiosity that defines us. We must commit to cultivating the potential of our students, driving our research to new heights, and making SUNY Downstate a proud place to be.

In this new year, I encourage each of you to set audacious goals, seize fresh opportunities, and embark on exciting journeys of discovery and creativity. Let’s make 2024 a year of momentous breakthroughs, both significant and subtle, shaping the future of healthcare and education in ways that will be remembered for generations to come.

I have passed a number of people in the hallways on campus and said, “Happy New Year!” But allow me to add a collective, “Here’s to a Happy New Year to All!”
