SUNY Downstate President Dr. Wayne J. Riley Named to Board of Trustees of Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS)

Brooklyn, NY – Wayne J. Riley, MD, MPH, MBA, MACP, president of State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center, has been named to the Board of Trustees of the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS). Dr. Riley fills a seat for the remainder of 2017, after which he will be eligible for re-nomination to a full three-year term.

Informing Dr. Riley of his selection, HANYS President Bea Grause, RN, JD, said, “I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with you during your term on what promise to be significant public policy issues.”

Dr. Riley responded, “I am deeply honored to serve in this capacity and work with HANYS in safeguarding and enhancing the healthcare delivery system throughout the State of New York.”

Dr. Riley, a distinguished physician, academician, clinician-educator and leader in American medicine, assumed the presidency of SUNY Downstate on April 3, 2017. Since his appointment, Dr. Riley has worked to achieve high levels of excellence across Downstate's multiple enterprises.

Dr. Riley earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Morehouse School of Medicine. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology with a concentration in medical anthropology from Yale University, a Master of Public Health degree in health systems management from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and a Master's in business administration from Rice University's Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business. Dr. Riley is president emeritus of the American College of Physicians.
