Dr. Nina Schooler Discusses New Schizophrenia Treatment Recommendations on National Public Radio

Brooklyn, NY – Nina Schooler PhD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, recently discussed new treatment recommendations for persons diagnosed with first episode schizophrenia with National Public Radio’s Ari Shapiro.

Dr. Schooler notes that the new approach requires a “treatment team” and that talking therapies are combined with low-dose medication. Previous treatment methods relied much more heavily on high doses of powerful drugs.

The recommendations were detailed in an article in The American Journal of Psychiatry of which Dr. Schooler was a co-author, and which was based on a major U.S. government-funded study.
