Feb 14, 2011
SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University at Bay Ridge now offers a walk-in Urgent Care Center, Ambulatory Surgery Center, Advanced Endoscopy Center, Laser Vision Correction Center, and laboratory and radiology support services. The newly renovated facility is located at the site of the former Victory Memorial Hospital at Seventh Avenue and 92nd Street.
“SUNY Downstate is delighted to provide Brooklyn residents in the Bay Ridge area with these critical healthcare services,” said John C. LaRosa, MD, president of Downstate. “I want to thank everyone who worked diligently to make this happen, including our elected and appointed officials and the staff at Downstate.”
Debra Carey, chief executive officer of Downstate’s University Hospital at Downstate, added, “We are well-equipped to enhance the health and well-being of this community. I am certain people are going to be very pleased with this state-of-the-art facility, and we welcome physicians in the area to use Downstate at Bay Ridge for their patients.”
Patients with non life-threatening illnesses or injuries are seen quickly in the Urgent Care Center between 10 am and 9 pm. No appointment is necessary. Board-certified and board-qualified emergency medicine physicians provide the highest quality care to patients with cuts, fevers, sore throats, asthma or flu symptoms, and similar conditions. Patients requiring more advanced care, such as those suffering chest pains, will be stabilized and transported to the closest hospital emergency room. Patients who prefer to make an appointment in advance, or want more information, can call 718-567-1400.
The Ambulatory Surgery Center is a full-service, multi-specialty outpatient surgical unit designed for surgery that does not require an overnight stay. Completely renovated with seven operating rooms, the center is able to perform almost any procedure suitable for outpatient surgery. Those wanting more information may call 718-567-1229.
The Advanced Endoscopy Center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all aspects of gastrointestinal disease using the latest endoscopic procedures. All patients are seen on an outpatient basis and will go home the same day. For an appointment patients may call 718-282-7234.
A Laser Vision Correction Center is also available at SUNY Downstate at Bay Ridge, which offers both LASIK and PRK procedures. The number to call for an appointment is 718-748-1334.
Laboratory and radiology services are available for both community outpatient referrals and walk-ins. For information on laboratory services and hours of operation, patients may call 718-567-1157; for radiology, the number is 718-567-1245.
Physician consultation offices and additional ambulatory services are planned for the future.
