TRANSPORT Program Manager and Project Administrative Officer
Lakia Maxwell, MSCH is the TRANSPORT Program Manager and Project Administrative Officer
at the Brooklyn Health Disparities Center (BHDC), at Downstate Health Sciences University.
She received a Master’s in Community Health at Hofstra University in 2016. Ms. Maxwell
joined The Brooklyn Health Disparities Center in 2014 and served as Research Education
Coordinator. In that capacity, Ms. Maxwell provides support for the Center’s Executive
Team in submission of NIH and other grant proposals. She manages the financial expenditures
and scholar recruitment processes of the TRANSPORT Endowment Program. She has developed
and maintained web based and social media communications, brochures, pamphlets among
many other products. Ms. Maxwell is engaged in program planning and designing, as
well as the implementation of research activities. She is also the Center’s Internship
coordinator for high school, undergraduates, graduate, and medical school students.
Additionally, Ms. Maxwell is the CREST Program Coordinator to which she brings expertise
in coordinating project activities, managing schedules, and ensuring project deliverables
are completed on time and within budget. Furthermore, Ms. Maxwell provides Program
Evaluation, Survey Design, Graphic Design, Logic Model Development, SMART Goal and
Objective Development, as well as Budget and Timeline Development in her roles. She
has also assisted with and has a passion for both Community Based Participatory Research
and Community Engaged Research. Through her passion for community health, Ms. Maxwell
also served as a professor at SUNY Empire State College where she taught “Introduction
To Community and Public Health”. Here, she really enjoyed teaching the next generation
of public health professionals.
