Dr. Luba Nakhutina is a board certified neuropsychologist. She directs the Neuropsychology Service in the Department of Neurology, specializing in evaluations of patients with a wide range of cognitive problems associated with neurological, psychiatric, and medical illness. Her expertise includes procedures, such as Wada testing, in patients considering epilepsy surgery, as well as evaluations of memory disorders/dementia and traumatic brain injury. She provides services to patients from linguistically and culturally-diverse backgrounds.

Dr. Nakhutina completed her Ph.D. in Psychology (Neuropsychology) at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She completed fellowship at MGH/ Harvard Medical School and at the NYU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. She joined SUNY Downstate faculty in 2009 and is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology. Her research interests include neurobehavioral factors in treatment adherence and quality of life in epilepsy, social determinants of brain health, and cross-cultural neuropsychological assessment.

Dr. Nakhutina had co-authored book chapters, peer-reviewed articles, and presented her research at national and international conferences. She directs externship training for psychology doctoral students and lectures to medical students, residents, and fellows. She is a member of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology, International Neuropsychological Society, and is also on the board of directors of the New York Neuropsychology Group, where she co-chairs the Bilingual Task Force.
