Daniel Winetsky, MD, MS

Dr. Winetsky joined the STAR Health Center at SUNY Downstate in 2022 as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases. He earned his Medical Doctorate and Master of Science in Health Services Research at Stanford University School of Medicine in 2012.

After completing a residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, he served as the Site Medical Director for East Jersey State Prison from 2015 to 2017. He subsequently completed subspecialty fellowship training in Infectious Diseases at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in conjunction with an NIH-funded T32 post-doctoral training program in Behavioral HIV Research at Columbia University's HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies and the New York State Psychiatric Institute.

He also served as a Fulbright Community Service Fellow in the Russian Federation from 2006 to 2007 and received a U.S. State Department-funded graduate research fellowship from the International Research and Exchanges Board to conduct a prevalence survey of active pulmonary tuberculosis in the prison system of Tajikistan from 2009 to 2010. His research, advocacy, teaching and clinical work at STAR focus on enhancing engagement in services for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases among marginalized populations.
