    Susanrachel B. Condon graduated from the Downstate Midwifery Program in 1998 and received her doctorate in midwifery (DM) from Jefferson University in 2019.

    Course coordination for Medical Complications of Pregnancy, Obstetric Complications of Pregnancy; instructor for Intrapartum, Postpartum, and Neonatology Courses; clinical site liaison.

    About

    Professor Condon has been in full scope, independent clinical practice in multiple settings throughout her career. She has worked in clinics, hospitals, and provided home care. Professor Condon has been an educator since 1994 and patient education is one of the hallmarks of her clinical practice. She is passionate about both didactic and experiential education and enhancing learning by employing various approaches, including teach back and peer support.

    Since 2004, Professor Condon has been a partner in private practice in the Mid-Hudson Valley, providing primary care across the lifespan and home-based perinatal services. She has also worked in hospital and clinic-based practice and has been a clinical preceptor for numerous midwifery and nursing programs. Professor Condon has taught anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, and women’s health-related topics in the classroom and as a featured lecturer in a variety of venues since 1991. She studied both the occupational therapy and physical therapy models of pelvic health extensively and considers pelvic assessment competency across the lifespan an integral part of midwifery care. 

     

    Contributions to the Profession

    Professor Condon served on the board of New York's affiliate to the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) for 10 years. She was the Program Committee Chair and Regional Representative. As a member of the Home Birth Integration Initiative of New York Task Force, she worked to develop evidence-based practice guidelines and she served on the ACNM Home Birth & Birth Center Committee, where she was a contributor to the 4th edition of the Home Birth & Birth Center Manual. She became a Fellow of the ACNM in 2021.

    Professor Condon's doctoral research was on obstetric violence, respectful perinatal care, and promoting midwives as role models for collaborative decision-making. She has presented on these topics as a guest speaker at midwifery organizations, the Alden March Reproductive Bioethics Conference, the NYS Perinatal Association, and ACNM Annual Meetings. Professor Condon engages in innovative research and has been published in the Journal of Midwifery & Women’s Health and the international journal Midwifery. She is a peer reviewer for several professional journals.
