External Resources for the PA Profession

The SUNY Downstate Physician Assistant Program is a member of the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA), the only national umbrella organization representing physician assistant educational programs in the United States

Members of the PA faculty are fellow members of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) as well as the New York State Society of Physician Assistants (NYSSPA).

PA students are introduced to the roles and responsibilities of the PA professional associations and are required to be members of the Student Association of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (SAAAPA). Membership in both NYSSPA and SAAAPA affords students increased awareness of legislative initiatives being pursued for the betterment of the PA Profession in New York State and across the country. Additionally, affiliations with these organizations provide the student with opportunities to network with peers and established PAs."

The program also sees student membership and active participation in the activities of our professional associations, as opportunities to impact the direction and future of the PA profession. Faculty and students are encouraged to participate in the activities of the professional associations at the national, state and local levels.
