Radiation Oncology Residency Training Program

Welcome to the SUNY Downstate Radiation Oncology Residency program.

The SUNY Downstate Radiation Oncology Residency Training Program is a four-year postgraduate educational program fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The essential learning activity in the program is interaction with patients under the guidance and supervision of faculty members who give value, context and meaning to those interactions.

As residents gain experience and demonstrate growth in their ability to care for patients, they assume roles that permit them to exercise those skills with greater independence. This concept of “graded and progressive responsibility” is one of the core tenets of American Graduate Medical Education.

Our Radiation Oncology program has general objectives in accordance with the ACGME Program Requirements, our local Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office, the GME Committee, and the American Board of Radiology (ABR), with oversight by the Program Director and the Radiation Oncology Residency Review Committee. The Radiation Oncology program’s curriculum and goals and objectives are designed by the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC), under the direction of the Program Director and its administration is conducted with the assistance of the Residency Program Coordinator.
