Research

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery & Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is continuously involved in research. We support and encourage our residents to carry forward research studies and presentations in their areas of interest.

In conjunction with our Human Performance Laboratory (gait lab), we are currently conducting studies on assistive technology, muscular dystrophy, low back pain, HIV associated neuropathy, exercise adherence, diabetes, and gait analysis, to name a few.

During their three years of residency, each resident is required to complete a minimum of one poster presentation to be submitted to national conferences. Residents must also participate in quality improvement projects that seek to improve the delivery and equity of care in the local community. Additionally, residents are encouraged to submit case reports and original research articles for publication in specialty-related journals.

Travel expenses and a per diem are covered for residents that have a publication accepted for presentation at a national conference.
