Kings County HospitalKings County Hospital Center is one of the most storied public hospitals in the country. Its halls hold the history of generations of immigrants to this country. The hospital serves as the main site for our residency program and is one of only three adult trauma centers in the borough of Brooklyn and the only level one pediatric trauma center in Brooklyn. "The County" cares for a vast number of Brooklyn's 3.5 million inhabitants as the largest municipal hospital in New York City, and one of the largest general acute care hospitals in the nation. The campus is situated on 43 acres and contains 23 buildings. Along with its designation as a Level I Trauma Center, it has 9 Intensive Care Units including a Pediatric ICU and a large Renal Dialysis Center. Kings County is a Stroke Center and a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Center of Excellence.

The Emergency Department census is over 125,000 visits per year, making it one of the busiest ED's in the country. The amount and variety of pathology is simply staggering and unparalleled. According to the CDC, Kings County has led the nation in the number of penetrating trauma cases in the last decade - a dubious honor, though an asset when viewed from the perspective of a resident training program.
