How to Apply
The Residency Training Program at the Department of Dermatology at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center is an ACGME-accredited 3-year program. Our program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS®) and the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).

Criteria
Selection is determined by a number of factors, including academic achievement, USMLE Step 1 and 2 scores, clinical competence, research experience, and personal attributes. When your application is completed and all supporting documents are received, your file will be reviewed by our Residency Selection Committee.
Other Requirements
One year of post-graduate clinical training in the United States accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) must be completed prior to starting dermatology residency. Acceptable programs include: a transitional year or preliminary year in emergency medicine, family medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics & gynecology, or pediatrics. SUNY Downstate does not sponsor J-1 or H-1B visa.

Interviews
Interviews are granted by invitation only. Residency interviews are conducted on Wednesdays in December and January. The interview day consists of an introduction to our Academic Day, a Grand Rounds Lecture, followed by a tour of the facilities and lunch with the residents. Interviews are typically held in the afternoon and are conducted with our primary academic faculty and chief residents. Interviews should be completed by 4:00 PM.
Location
Interviews are held in the Department of Dermatology, on the 8th floor of the Basic Science Building at 450 Clarkson Avenue.
