Institutional Learning Objectives

Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs) are a set of core competencies that all students are expected to develop during their time at SUNY Downstate regardless of their respective program.

ILOs are designed to guide individual departments and disciplines in the development of learning objectives for programs, courses, and services.

Embedded in these ILOs are strategies and principles that help students recognize and develop successful pathways to help them achieve their academic goals and prepare for a career in health and biomedical sciences.

Upon completion of a program at Downstate, all students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and skills relative to the respective discipline profession.
  2. Demonstrate ethical and professional behaviors relative to the respective discipline/profession.
  3. Practice effective collaboration and communication among diverse communities.

The ILOs were reviewed and approved by university leadership, the Deans of each school/college, and the Outcomes Assessment Coordinating Committee.

Last review of ILOS: Spring 2023
