The Robert F. Furchgott Medical Student Research Award

To qualify for this award, applicants must be current fourth year Downstate medical students who have conducted basic or clinical research while enrolled as a medical student at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. MD PhD students are eligible to apply, but may only submit applications reflecting the research performed while as a medical student and not as part of their thesis project.  The award recipient will be selected on the basis of the scientific merit of their research, the student's contribution to and understanding of the project, and the quality of the presentation as determined by the reviewing members of the Robert F. Furchgott Medical Student Award Committee. Abstracts, presentations and publications by the student will strengthen their application, however, publications by Downstate medical students that fail to acknowledge their Downstate affiliation will not be considered with the same level of enthusiasm.  Selected applicants will present a 15-minute oral presentation to members of the Robert F. Furchgott Review Committee.

Nominations require:

  1. Complete the application form to include in your submission
  2. A letter from your research advisor describing the applicant's role in designing, executing, and interpreting the results of the project.
  3. An abstract describing the research project (no more than 250 words).
  4. A curriculum vitae.

The application package must be electronically submitted as a single PDF file to RFFS@downstate.edu by Friday, April 3, 2020 at 5 PM.
